Hmong Youth Education Services (Hmong YES), formerly the Lauj Youth Society of Minnesota, Inc. (LYS), was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1993 by concerned parents wanting to help their children become educated self-sufficient members of American society. LYS grew out of earlier efforts begun in the 1980s by Hmong parents and the Hmong community to provide academic tutoring and support for Hmong youth. Today Hmong YES remains the only Hmong mutual assistance organization in Minnesota that specializes in youth programs. Hmong YES' mission is “to nurture and develop successful Hmong youth through education programs.“ Hmong YES works closely with St. Paul Public Schools, libraries, social service agencies, local courts and law enforcement, and other Hmong and non-Hmong community organizations to help Hmong children and youth succeed academically. Teachers with Hmong students and Hmong parents refer children to Hmong YES for academic assistance. Hmong YES promotes its academic assistance programs to Hmong parents and St. Paul schools with Hmong students. ![]() |
